Hi There I have a Word document which has an embedded Excel sheet in it. When Word opens I 'enable Macros', double click on the embedded excel sheet, Excel opens and then it just hangs with the 'Open' screen showing with the words 'Opening' but nothing happens. I have run the Apple Disk Utility, started in Safe mode to ensure it wasn't my AV program etc, deleted the Word plist files as recommended in another article but still no luck.
It was working for me about two weeks ago. I have the latest MS Office update 14.5.5 and OS X 10.10.5 Does anyone have any suggestions? You mentioned enabling macros. Opening an embedded file does not require a macro. It's possible that a macro is interfering with your ability to open the spreadsheet, so I would try opening the file and not enabling macros.
Then test opening the Excel file. If that doesn't work, you can extract the embedded spreadsheet from the Word file and open it separately in Excel to make sure there isn't anything wrong with it:. Save a copy of the Word file to an empty folder. Add.zip to the file name. OS X will ask if your are certain, click on Use.zip. Right-click on the file and choose Open WithArchive Utility. The file is unzipped into several folders and a ContentTypes.xml file.
Open the word folder. Open the embeddings folder. Your embedded Excel will have a name like MicrosoftExcelSheet1.xlsx. Open it in Excel. If it opens with no problem, then you've confirmed it is not causing the issue in Word.
You can also use it as a source to re-embed it into your Word document. Remember to Save As with different names as you experiment. Brandwares - Advanced Office template services to the graphic design industry and select corporations. John Korchok, Production Manager [email protected].
